Semiotics: The Basics, Second Edition

This introduction to semiotics is lucid and compelling. It provides the intelligent reader with a clear analysis of terminology, positions, and developments. Chandler focuses on structuralism, not on poststructuralism, but this is an asset, because it provides the background necessary to understand later thinkers. The other reviews explain well Chandler's strengths.

  1. Forgive me, but I am disagree with Joe's review for saying that some aspects of the book are frustrating. That's too cynical and truly pointed on technical problems only. Anyway, I thought this book is wonderful, and suitable for them who want to study semiotic from the beginning. Many topics of this book were explained thoroughly and the author has succeeded to use some examples that actually related to our daily life.
Don’t you think that our life is a code itself?
